Learning Objectives

  • Understand the pre-operative and post-operative considerations in the management of cataracts with co-existing retinal conditions.
  • To be able to manage patients' expectations and provide expert guidance before referral for cataract surgery as well as after surgery.
  • Understand the factors that influence the choice of intraocular lens implants and suitability for presbyopia-correcting solutions in patients with co-existing retinal conditions.
  • Understand the importance of retinal assessment and imaging in conjunction with cataract assessment, the use of adjunctive retinal treatments and indications for phacovitrectomy.
  • Learn about new treatments that have recently become available for neovascular AMD, the potential advantages and role in treatment.
  • Understand how treatments are individualised to patients with the availability of an increased range of treatment, and its importance in the long term management of neovascular AMD.
  • Learn about new and emerging treatments on the horizon for the treatment of geographic atrophy.
  • Understand the use of multi-modal imaging in diagnosis and management in neovascular AMD, and its use in evaluating and identifying suitable candidates for treatment in GA.
  • Gain insight into the future directions and other therapeutics in early phase development for AMD.
