Activity Outline

Join Dr. Nikhil Kumar and Prof. Max Conway in an evening to discuss an array of new and upcoming technologies. The event aims to provide a bridge between Optometrist and Ophthalmologist where scopes of practice in cataract, refractive and cornea diseases and intervention overlap. The latest in IOL Technologies, Keratoconus interventions (CAIRS), Refractive Laser Surgeries, MIGS and Ocular Tumors will be delved into by two of Australia’s most experienced doctors in their fields.

Dr Kumar is a member of the Australian, American and European Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters involving his specialty interests. He was amongst the first surgeons in Australia to perform femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery. Dr Kumar pioneered transepithelial crosslinking for corneal ectasias in NSW. A new option for keratoconus patients, Femtosecond CAIRS, will be discussed. He would like to bring an understanding of this procedure and its place in the surgical armamentarium for corneal ectasias. He also has the privilege of being able to access the latest in IOL and MIGS technologies, which will also be discussed during the event.

A/Prof Max Conway is a highly experienced ophthalmologist committed to helping people with acquired vision impairments. He has special interests in cataract surgery, glaucoma, retinal and macular disease and tumours. With his wealth of knowledge and experience, he will provide a crash course in Ocular Tumours, presentations, visual and systemic symptoms.  It will be an intriguing opportunity to learn how to assess and expand your knowledge and improve screening process and assessing suspects.
