Activity Outline

Visionary Eye Specialists are hosting a night of small group discussions and presentations. Each small group of attendees will rotate through each presentation to facilitate interactive discussions and the opportunity to ask questions.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise patients at risk for complications during cataract surgery. Also understand the management/consequences and recovery after surgical complications.
  • Be more confident in initial discussions with patients around cataract surgery choices. This topic will include whether to proceed to surgery now or later, where to have the surgery, one or two eyes, timing between surgeries, intraocular lens choice, whether to have other ocular surgery to optimize outcomes such as pterygium surgery, ectropion, ptosis, vitreoretinal surgery first.
  • Understand the indications for strabismus surgery, the basic steps involved in the operation & recognise the importance of restoring ocular alignment.
  • Understand the challenges and considerations required for patients undergoing cataract surgery in the presence of corneal disease.
  • Gain insight into essential considerations for pre and post-operative care in the glaucomatous eye.
