Activity Outline

The optometric management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is rapidly changing. Shortly, we anticipate approval of geographic atrophy treatments, such as pegcetacoplan, in Australia, and it is vital optometrists are aware of the referral pathways to access these new drugs. A/Prof Ayton will present on the new AMD clinical practice guidelines, developed by an expert panel and Optometry Australia.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the current and emerging AMD medical treatments (i.e., anti-VEGF therapies, pegcetacoplan, avacincaptad pegol)
  • Apply OA recommendations for management of AMD patients, including imaging guidelines, review strategies and referral pathways to ophthalmology and patient support services
