Learning Objectives

  • Develop an approach to the red eye.
  • Identify common ocular emergencies presenting as a red eye.
  • Revision of treatment of common red eye presentations, and an understanding of conditions that require urgent intervention.
  • Diagnose SIRE, PAMM, Inner retinal hyperreflectivity, Retinal cavitations and Early retinal neovascularisation.
  • Identify potential causes for Macular pathology in children.
  • Learn an approach to manage visual loss in children with no apparent cause.
  • Identify common congenital ocular disorders and their ocular and systemic implications.
  • Understand contraindications to presbyopia correcting lenses.
  • Understand patients requirements in 2023 and the link between spectacle independence and wellbeing.
  • Review different technologies available for presbyopia correction.
  • Recognise symptoms of wet AMD.
  • Identify signs of wet AMD.
  • Recognise other conditions that may mimic wet AMD.
  • Be familiar with newly introduced therapy for wet AMD.
  • Be familiar with emerging therapy for geographic atrophy.
  • Be aware of OCT changes which predict geographic atrophy.
  • Be able to more readily differentiate between dermatochalasis and ptosis.
  • Practical management of epiphora.
  • Have a better understanding of the ocular plastic causes of ocular irritation.
