Activity Outline
Presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (PCIOLs) are increasingly being used in Australia and New Zealand. Our patients are often aware of friends and family who have had cataract surgery and, as a result, are significantly less dependent on glasses for many of their daily tasks. There is an expectation that this outcome is what the majority of people undergoing cataract surgery will experience, and that the majority of patients are likely to prefer this outcome.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how PROMs differ from clinical measures
- Understand the importance of expectation management, patient selection, and strict assessment processes
- Recognise how PCIOLs can improve quality of life regardless of age
- Appreciate that the final visual outcome may not align with traditional clinical measures of ‘success’
