Join ECO WA for ‘Children’s Vision & Learning: Case Studies

Summary: In this talk, we will explore the relationship between vision and learning. We will revise the foundations of accommodation and convergence as well as look at the current understanding of binocular vision. We will also explore how dysfunctions in these systems can impact a child’s visual comfort and academic performance. Through examination of current research and real-life case studies, we hope to provide insights into the clinical relevance of identifying and managing binocular vision issues in children.

3. Gain confidence in helping treat accommodative and convergence problems
4. Gain confidence in helping treat children with low fusional reserves
Presenter Biography:
Dr Andrew Nguyen (B.Biotech(Hons), O.D.), Credentialled Optometrist
Andrew completed a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Melbourne in 2015 which included an internship at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has worked in various regional and metro practices across Australia before opening his own at Vision Care Eye Centre in O’Connor. Andrew has a special interest in paediatric optometry, myopia control and dry eyes. Aside from his practice Andrew also works at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Ophthalmology Department. He is currently a member of the Early Careers Optometrist Committee and has previously served as the Treasurer for the Optometry Western Australia Board.
Mr Nick Lee (BOptom(Hons))
Nick completed his Bachelor of Optometry with Honours at the University of Auckland in 2018. He is currently practicing at a paediatric practice in Perth alongside a full allied health team of optometrists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists. He has special interest in developmental optometry and myopia management. He currently serves as the Secretary for the Early Career Optometrists WA.
