The second OV/SA Looking Outward on Optometric Knowledge (LOOK) Local Scholarship is now open until 15 April for applications. Established last year to facilitate Australian-based study tours for an OV/SA financial member, the Scholarship is intended to directly improve eye health of local communities throughout Victoria and South Australia.
The successful applicant will receive up to $2,500 to investigate innovative advancements in the practice of optometry (including in clinical practice, patient management, eye health and disease diagnosis, or technology) which could be readily implemented in the applicant’s local area. These optometric advancements will not yet be widely or readily available in the applicant’s community.
Optometry Australia’s Director of Optometry Advancement, Sarah Davies said, ‘The LOOK Local Scholarship allows members to explore innovative approaches to eye care, workforce integration, and healthcare delivery. It supports forward-thinking optometrists to explore potential advancements in optometry across Australia, then bring these insights back to their communities, sharing knowledge with colleagues and contributing to the advancement of optometry in Australia. Recipients will investigate innovative ways of delivering eye care, including those which utilise optometry at its maximal scope, implement collaborative models of care, or aim to integrate optometry within the broader healthcare system.
‘This is an excellent opportunity to gain insights into how distinctive models of care across various Australian regions could transform the future of optometric practice, improving patient care and system integration.’
