Optometry Australia is pleased to become a member of the First Nations Eye Health Alliance (FNEHA) and support its mission of enhancing eye health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
‘We are extremely keen to work with FNEHA to support First Nations-led, self-determined ways of improving the eye health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia,’ said Skye Cappuccio, CEO of Optometry Australia.
Ms Cappuccio acknowledges FNEHA’s exceptional leadership in hosting the 2024 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference (NATSIEHC24) in May. The conference brought together delegates across the country, with the aim of advancing the collective work of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health sector towards the shared goal of ending avoidable vision loss and blindness for First Nations Australians.
Additionally, she congratulates FNEHA on the launch of their 2024-28 Strategic Plan, which outlines their strategic priorities and activities designed to strengthen the national conversation around eye health and vision care in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.
‘Through this alliance, Optometry Australia reaffirms its dedication to supporting initiatives that improve eye health outcomes for all Australians, including those in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities,’ Ms Cappuccio said.
About FNEHA
The FNEHA is Australia’s first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led eye health organisation, and was born out of key discussions during the 2022 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference (NATSIEHC22), signifying the progress of Frist Nations self-determination and leadership in eye care.
The Alliance provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working in the eye care and vision sector, along with their allies, a space to connect, learn and be supported.
