Learning Objectives

  • 1.1 Develop an understanding of Behavioural Optometry & the Role of the Behavioural Optometrist Recognise the role of optometric management of learning related vision problems How to effectively manage patients requiring vision therapy
  • 1.2 Demonstrate knowledge of basic eye anatomy Develop an understanding of the Visual Process Develop an understanding of an Optometric Vision Examination
  • 1.3 Develop an understanding of ocular physiology Develop knowledge of the visual pathways Ability to identify the salient points in a vision examination
  • 1.4 Develop a knowledge of Visual Development Develop an understanding of Primitive reflexes, Develop an understanding of developmental milestones
  • 2.1 Working knowledge of vision therapy techniques suitable for use with, or in the treatment of certain visual conditions or deficits in visual skills/abilities Develop an understanding of eye movements Understanding of direction of visual attention in terms of control, accuracy & automaticity
  • 2.2 Demonstrate knowledge of Pursuits Develop an understanding of Saccades Develop an understanding of Central/Peripheral processing
  • 2.3 Develop an understanding of body schema, laterality, directionality Develop an understanding of Sensory integration (visual motor, visual auditory, visual vestibular) Develop an understanding of Visual thinking
  • 2.4 Develop an understanding of sequential processing, visual analysis, visualization, visual imagery Recognition of the potential consequences of refractive status Recognition of Hyperopia, Myopia, Astigmatism, Presbyopia
