An interactive wetlab style teaching event for techniques of corneal foreign body removal, intravitreal injections, intraocular lens implantations, basic suturing techniques

Learning Objectives

  • To be able to examine the patient with a corneal foreign body and assess for any penetration, to know and be able to implement any immediate optometric management of a penetrating eye injury, to know what medications to prescribed post corneal foreign body removal, to understand the management of complications post corneal foreign body removal, to be able to safely remove a corneal foreign body. At the completion of the CPD activities, participants should be able to complete the above tasks
  • To be able to assess patient for the need of intravitreal injections, to know the standard aseptic techniques of injection procedure, to understand the anatomy of intravitreal injections, to understand the technique of intravitreal injections, to be able to performed intravitreal injections as recommended by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. At the completion of the CPD activities, participants should be able to complete the above tasks.
  • To understand the basic anatomy in relation to intraocular lens implantation, to understand the steps in performing intraocular lens implantation, to safely performed intraocular lens implantation in model eyes, to understand the risks and potential complications during intra ocular lens implantation. At the completion of the CPD activities, participants should be able to complete the above tasks.
  • To understand the basic suturing principle, to understand the basic suturing techniques, to have hands-on experience with handling sutures, to be able to tie knots with instruments. At the completion of the CPD activities, participants should be able to complete the above tasks.
