Learning Objectives

  • Understand the pathophysiology of dry eye disease (DED)
  • Understand the tear film and its dysfunction in DED
  • Understand how appropriate testing can help identify the DED subtypes (evaporative vs aqueous deficient spectrum) and promote treatment success
  • Understand the current concepts in the treatment of dry eye, namely restoration of tear film homeostasis
  • Understand the implementation of quantitative evaluation symptomatology (OSDI) in monitoring treatment outcomes
  • Develop a framework on which to base multifaceted treatment strategies for more complex dry eye presentations
  • Understand how dry eye treatment can be efficiently integrated into practice
  • Accurately assess and document patient-reported dry eye symptoms
  • Learn how to employ a range of objective and subjective techniques for assessing the severity of key clinical signs of dry eye disease
  • Understand the principles and technique of a variety of treatments for dry eye disease
