Activity Outline

Join us for a fun interactive educational evening at Eagle Eye Surgeons.

This event is strictly for 16 lucky optometrists for hands-on teaching with our femtosecond, excimer, and diode laser systems.

We will be having canapes and refreshments starting at 6pm.

- Dr Erica Darian-Smith will speak to you about corneal laser refractive techniques including PRK, LASIK, SMILE, and Laser Blended Vision. She will then demonstrate these techniques for you on real tissue, giving you the opportunity to see how these procedures are done in real-time.

- Dr Mitchell Lee will speak to you about YAG laser and retinal laser techniques including SLT, capsulotomy, peripheral iridotomy and retinopexy. He will demonstrate these techniques using example cases and artificial eyes, for real-time teaching.

RSVP early as you don't want to miss out. However, if there’s enough interest, we can run this again in the future.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain hands-on teaching and experience with femtosecond, excimer, and diode laser systems.
  • Review the technical aspects and mechanics of corneal laser systems, including their specific applications in laser and refractive surgery.
  • Gain an understanding of patient selection criteria, pre-operative assessment, and determining the suitability of patients for laser refractive surgery.
  • Gain an overview of intraoperative complications of ophthalmic laser techniques and how these are managed.
  • Understand the guidelines for effective post-operative care, including monitoring healing processes and managing common post-operative issues to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Discuss strategies for integrating laser and refractive surgery into clinical practice, including how to communicate benefits and risks to patients and coordinating care with ophthalmologists.
