Optometrists & Pharmacists
This joint session between OWA’s Early Career Optometrists and PSA’s Early Career Pharmacists will provide a unique opportunity for optometrists and pharmacists to share collaborative education and discussions about how to improve eye health and management. By understanding the complementary roles of the two professions, better health outcomes can be achieved.
This session will also provide updates on prescribing legalities for optometrists, ocular side effects of medicines, eye conditions commonly present in the community and the opthalmic medicines available to treat them, referral pathways and resources. Learning Objectives
- Recognise the role both pharmacists and optometrists play in optimising eye health and management
- Discuss the navigation of the PBS website to determine which ophthalmic medicines are available on PBS and prescribing legalities for optometrists
- Recognise systemic medicines with ocular side effects and comorbidities.
- Recognise and differentiate between eye conditions that commonly present in the community
