Activity Outline

1. Suitability for surgery: LASIK, PRK, SMILE.  Indications and limits of corneal refractive surgery will be discussed as will the choice of procedure. Corneal and general medical conditions that are absolute or relative contraindications will also be addressed.

2. Options for distance and near vision - laser ablation patterns.  Choice of ablation patterns for distance vision and presbyopia will be discussed.

3. What's going on under the LASIK flap?  How to identify serious complications under the LASIK flap will be discussed.  This is of particular importance to those who see LASIK cases in the early post-operative phase. 

Learning Objectives

  • Better understand how to assess suitability of their patients for laser refractive surgery
  • Understand the various laser ablation patterns to treat both distance and near vision
  • Identify on the slit lamp the important pathologies that might follow laser refractive surgery
