Activity Outline

Join us for an engaging and informative optometrist education event hosted by esteemed specialists Dr Heathcote Wright, Dr Nima Pakrou, and Dr Jeremy Diamond. This exclusive session will cover a range of fascinating and practical topics designed to enhance your clinical knowledge. Whether you're looking to deepen your understanding of complex topics or stay updated on the latest advancements in eye health, this event promises valuable insights and expert perspectives. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from leading professionals and connect with fellow eye care practitioners.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between various types of visual field loss, with a deeper understanding of the key distinctions between glaucomatous and neurological patterns. The session will highlight how certain visual field results that may initially appear consistent with glaucoma can, in fact, indicate underlying neurological conditions—emphasising the importance of accurate interpretation and referral pathways in clinical practice.
  • Discuss the ZAP study—an influential, high-quality randomised controlled trial that challenged long-standing practices around prophylactic peripheral iridotomy (PI). Despite its findings showing no significant benefit of PI over a 6-year period, the procedure remains commonly performed. Dr Heathcote Wright will explore the key results of the study, examine why PI continues to be used in clinical settings
  • Review the common retinal conditions, focusing on their key clinical features, methods of diagnosis, and current treatment options. The session will also delve into emerging insights into the underlying pathophysiology of these conditions, enhancing your understanding of disease mechanisms. Additionally, you'll be introduced to new and evolving treatment modalities, equipping you with up-to-date knowledge to support improved patient outcomes.
