Activity Outline

Navigating the Maze of Ocular Health through Education

Learning Objectives

  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to discuss the steps in assessing the anterior angle anatomy.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to explain the reasons why gonioscopy should be performed.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to perform gonioscopy.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to recall case studies that demonstrate Primary Angle closure suspects.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to identify through case studies patients with suspected Primary Angle closure.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to analyse current Glaucoma literature related to the treatment of Primary Angle closure.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to discuss anterior eye anatomy in particular the angle that relates to glaucoma.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to identify potentially concerning pathologies.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to explain general morphological features of malignant lesions.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to explain referral criteria for suspected eyelid lesions.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to understand real life interesting retinal cases
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to appreciate emerging trends in the retinal world
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to have improved knowledge of Implantable collamer lenses
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to explain the mechanisms leading to ciliary block glaucoma, including the role of aqueous humor dynamics and the factors that contribute to aqueous misdirection. This objective includes understanding the anatomical and physiological aspects of the eye that are relevant to this condition.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to identify the clinical signs and symptoms of ciliary block glaucoma, interpret diagnostic imaging and tests, and differentiate it from other types of glaucoma and ocular conditions with similar presentations. This includes an understanding of the role of ultrasonography, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT), and other relevant diagnostic tools.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to identify the various treatment options for ciliary block glaucoma, including the indications, techniques, and outcomes of aqueous misdirection vitrectomy. This objective covers pre-operative considerations, surgical steps, post-operative care, and the management of potential complications.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to understand the infectious causes of retinal vasculitis, with a focus on Toxoplasma gondii infection. This includes understanding the immune response, the characteristic appearance of lesions, and the pathophysiological changes in the retina.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of toxoplasmosis retinal vasculitis, including the 'candlewax' appearance, and utilize appropriate diagnostic tools such as fluorescein angiography, OCT, and serological testing to confirm the diagnosis and assess the extent of retinal involvement.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to learn about the treatment protocols for toxoplasmosis retinal vasculitis, including anti-parasitic and anti-inflammatory medications, and the management of complications such as retinal detachment and vision loss. This objective also covers monitoring for treatment efficacy and side effects.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to explore the vascular causes of visual symptoms, focusing on how bilateral carotidal obstruction can lead to visual disturbances. This includes the relationship between carotid artery health and ocular perfusion, and the mechanisms by which vascular insufficiency affects visual function.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to conduct a thorough assessment of patients presenting with vague visual symptoms, employing a variety of diagnostic tools including visual field testing, imaging studies of the carotid arteries (such as Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance angiography), and ocular coherence tomography to evaluate retinal health.
  • At the completion of the activity, participants should be able to understand the treatment options for managing bilateral carotidal obstruction and its ocular consequences, including medical management of vascular risk factors, possible surgical interventions for carotid artery stenosis, and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach
