Learning Objectives
- Recognise the urgency of immediate treatment of chemical burns.
- Understand the principles of treatment of persistent epithelial defect.
- Understand the phases of management after chemical burn.
- Identify red flags in a patient with apparent optic disc swelling.
- Awareness of the differential diagnosis of optic disc swelling.
- Understand the modalities that aid in differentiating true disc swelling from pseudopapilloedema.
- Understand management of diabetic macular oedema.
- Understand management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy including vitreous haemorrhage.
- Review screening protocols for diabetic retinopathy and follow up for different grades of diabetic retinopathy.
- Most common cause of homonymous hemianaopia is stroke.
- Currently, the rehabilitation that aims to restore visual fields is a static exercise and is limited in its capacity to improve visual field defects.
- This novel dynamic rehabilitation method may have the potential to lead to a greater recovery of homonymous hemianopias from not only strokes but from other causes as well.
