Summary: Eyelid lesions range from benign self-limited inflammatory conditions to destructive life-threatening malignancies. In between these two extremes are a myriad of other eyelid lumps that require careful assessment, appropriate triage and specific management. Western Australia’s outdoor lifestyle is reflected in the significant number of patients presenting, symptomatically or asymptomatically, with eyelid malignancy. Having a practical and comprehensive framework for assessing eyelid tumours will ensure that our patients receive timely and appropriate care, however severe or innocuous their condition might be.
Learning objectives:
- Have a framework for assessment of eyelid tumours including triage and referral pathways
- Counsel patients regarding likely management of their particular eyelid condition
- Be up to date with latest research and alternative treatment options for patients with eyelid tumours
- Confidently manage, monitor and refer when required common benign eyelid lesions
- Confidently identify, assess and refer eyelid malignancy including rare aggressive tumours
