Regional Series Speaker: Alissa Maillet

This session will overview contemporary specialty lens fitting options for visual correction of regular and irregular corneas and myopia control. We will describe and contrast limbal, semi-scleral, mini-scleral, hybrid, and reverse geometry lens designs. Product information and manufacturer and supplier details will be presented as well as fitting tools and assessment procedures, including the use of corneal topography, scleral profiling and anterior optical coherence tomography (OCT), with case studies incorporated to illustrate the real-world application and patient impact.   .

  • Describe multiple specialty lens design options for visual correction and myopia control
  • Personalise lens selection based on patient conditions and requirements
  • Recount the fitting strategy and procedures for a chosen lens type
  • Explore and interpret corneal topography and scleral profiling

Meet your speaker:
 

Alissa Maillet is a Lecturer in Optometry and Vision Science at Deakin University. Alissa graduated with a BSc from University of Waterloo, Canada in 2002 with Honours studies in the field of Biotechnology. She migrated to Australia in 2005 to study optometry at University of Melbourne, successfully gaining Bachelor of Optometry qualification with therapeutic endorsement in 2008. Alissa worked as clinical optometrist, specialising in contact lens fitting, until 2015 when she commenced work at Deakin University. Alissa has completed a graduate certificate in Higher Education Learning & Teaching, a Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy, and is currently undertaking PhD studies. Alissa maintains clinical contact as a locum optometrist in the Geelong area and is one of the lead optometrists at the Deakin Collaborative Eye Care Clinic. Her research and teaching interests include dry eye disease, contact lenses, ocular therapeutics, and myopia management.
