Activity Outline

This educational evening will consist of 4 separate sessions, each lasting a total of 20 minutes in duration. Within each session, the presenting expert will deliver a short lecture using PowerPoint slides. Following the lectures, a panel discussion with a Q&A session will be held to facilitate higher-level engagement and discussion among attendees, allowing for valuable feedback from the presenting experts and fellow colleagues/attendees. 

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the key clinical and OCT signs of diabetic retinopathy and common vascular diseases and their significance to optometric management
  • Identify established OCT biomarkers for progression and indications for referral
  • To be aware of the range of cardiovascular disease which can affect the eye.
  • To be conversant with the differential diagnosis, and management of amaurosis fugax.
  • Understand how uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to conditions such as hypertensive retinopathy, choroidopathy, and glaucoma
  • Understand the role optometrists can play in the prevention, detection and management of hypertension
