Learning Objectives

  • At the completion of the CPD activity, participants will have a thorough understanding of FLACS (femotsecond laser-assisted cataract surgery), including patient selection criteria, contra-indications and patient suitability.
  • At the completion of this CPD activity optometrists will have a good understanding of the patient pathway and journey when undergoing FLACS, including pre- and post-operative measures taken for a suitable patient.
  • At the completion of this CPD activity optometrists should be able to identify the positives/advantages of FLACS, by exploring the safety, efficacy. Optometrists will be able to determine whether femtosecond-assisted laser cataract surgery (FLACS) reduces the posterior capsular complication (PCC) rate compared to manual cataract surgery when performed by an experienced surgeon.
