Learning Objectives
- Discuss the mechanisms of action and spectrum of activity of common antibiotics used in eye care
- Discuss the clinical considerations associated with antibiotic selection and usage when managing ocular infections.
- Present the impact of laboratory testing, local standards of practice and resistance rates as factors in antibiotic selection
- Understand the differences in managing acute versus chronic pain
- Discuss the mechanisms of action of the different classes
- Design appropriate pain management strategies for ophthalmic conditions in primary care derations of oral medications for ocular disease
- Become familiar with the indications, contraindications, dosages, adverse effects and precautions of commonly used oral antibacterial and antiviral medications for eye care
- Increase knowledge of ocular conditions which require oral therapy and evidence supporting use of this method of administration
- Have knowledge of the pharmacological considerations of oral medications for ocular disease
