Learning Objectives
- To understand the anatomy of the normal macula as seen on OCT and appreciate artefacts that may masquerade as pathology.
- To be able to detect common retinal conditions on OCT and gain an understanding of those conditions that require specialist referral and those that can be monitored by optometrists.
- To appreciate benign and serious peripheral retinal diseases that are frequently seen on Optos imaging and gain an understanding of those conditions that require specialist referral.

Associate Professor Chandra Balaratnasingam is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Western Australia and Medical Director of the Lions Eye Institute. He is an experienced retinal specialist that manages all aspects of medical and surgical retina diseases. He practices at the Lions Eye Institute (Nedlands and Murdoch Offices) and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He has published over 150 peer reviewed papers and his research interest is in the fields of diabetic retinopathy.
