Activity Outline

Dr Anton van Heerden (ophthalmologist) and David Cropman (optometrist) will discuss the refractive surgery options and decision-making process when choosing the most appropriate surgical option for each patient. They will also discuss the post-operative complications including therapeutic management considerations and what to expect when these patients see you in your clinics. This event promotes and discusses collaborative practice between ophthalmology and optometry within a specialty clinic setting. The audience will be encouraged to have interactive discussions throughout the event.

Dr Anton van Heerden will discuss the refractive surgery options and decision making process when choosing the most appropriate surgical option for each patient. He will also discuss the post-operative complications and what to expect when these patients see you in your clinics.

Meet your speakers:

Anton van Heerden 

MBChB, FRANZCO, FCOphth (SA), MRCOphth (London) 

 

Dr. Anton van Heerden is a cataract and refractive surgeon:  

 He is a Director of Eye Laser Specialists, Armadale Eye Clinic and Mornington Peninsula Eye Clinic. Anton was Head-of-unit of the Surgical Ophthalmology Services at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He was the first surgeon to introduce SMILE and Presbyond refractive surgery in Melbourne. 

David Cropman 

BSc Optometry 

 

 

David Cropman is the senior optometrist at Eye Laser Specialists. He has over 15 years experience in the field of refractive surgery. David is UK trained and was in private practice for 15 years before moving to Australia. His role includes assessing patients for refractive surgery, patients post-operative care and liaising with optometrists.
