Activity Outline

This face-to-face event will take place over one day (5 hours education total), consisting of seven sessions including an interactive panel discussion at the end of each session. Lectures will be delivered by optometrists and vision scientists from QUT's Centre for Vision and Eye Research with a focus on the latest evidence in paediatrics and myopia control including amblyopia, Indigenous paediatric optometry research, clinical considerations in paediatric populations, visual and biometric measurements in children, and myopia (atropine, optics, and the environment).

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the importance of assessing quality of life in patients with amblyopia and that binocular functional performance in not explained by monocular acuity deficits
  • Describe new modes of cycloplegic drug delivery
  • Discuss the principles of cultural safety in research and the process of developing a visual acuity optotype for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
  • Discuss the effect of low dose atropine on ocular biometry, accommodation and vergence systems, and the choroid
  • Describe the effect of blue light and ambient light exposure upon ocular parameters
  • Discuss the association between eye movements and academic performance in children, the visual manifestations of cerebral visual impairment, and various presentations of paediatric ocular pathology
  • Describe new psychophysical procedures to quantify visual acuity in preschoolers
  • Discuss the ocular response to different myopia control treatments

Max CPD hours awarded: 5
