Activity Outline

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise the clinical presentation and complications of corneal foreign bodies, including rust rings and delayed keratitis.
  • Apply evidence-based management strategies, including safe removal techniques and the use of therapeutic eye drops for infection prophylaxis and inflammation control.
  • Experience removing corneal foreign body from a model eye and gain confidence in their technique
  • Understand the complexities in diagnosing HSV/VZV keratitis
  • Understand the complexities in management of HSV/VZV keratitis and its different clinical manifestations
  • Understand the role of topical steroids and systemic antiviral treatment in the management of HSV/VZV keratitis
  • Appreciate the role of optometrists in the diagnosis and management of HSV/VZV keratitis
  • Appreciate the manifestation of ocular HSV/VZV other than keratitis
  • Develop a good understanding of Eyelid and Orbital Anatomy
  • Understand common Oculoplastics and Orbital Pathology
  • Gain practical skills on how to confidently assess lids and orbits
  • Evaluate current and emerging therapeutic options for Dry and Wet AMD, including Syfovre and other intravitreal injection protocols, with emphasis on evidence-based management and patient co-management.
  • Counsel patients effectively on realistic expectations, potential side effects, and the treatment burden associated with intravitreal therapy for GA in Dry AMD.
  • Inserting Hydrus into a model eye and discuss how it works
