Learning Objectives

  • At the completion of this presentation optometrists will have an understanding of the various mechanisms of uvetic glaucoma. How to identify and diagnose and how to manage theses patient in the optometric clinical setting- with therapuetic management and the drop regime that is most effective.
  • Optometrists will be able to recognise the risk factors for steroid induced glaucoma, what are the signs to look out for
  • Case studies and discussion with optometrists to help understand the principles of management of uvetic glaucoma.
  • At the completion of this presentation optometrists will have a thorough understanding on how to approach patients when diagnosing acute anterior uveitis and taking into account the various presentations patients may present with- this will be discussed with case studies.
  • Optometrists will have an understanding and will be able to recognise that systemic disease may present as an acute iritis and that the iritis may be the only sign of a serious systemic disease.
  • At the completion of this presentation optometrists will know what PTK refractive surgery is, what is involved, indications, selection criteria and contra-indications. Through case studies and discussions, post-operative therapeutic drop regime will also be discussed and their indications.
  • Optometrists will be able to thoroughly asses keratoconus patients and understand the optimal time for referral to ensure best visual outcome for the patient.
