How can we support you and your workplace?

Optometry Australia offers free advice and support for members on human resources (HR) and workplace employment issues, via our Optometry Advisor Help Desk.

For more complex matters, initial legal advice is free for members through OA’s legal partner, Industry Legal Group (ILG). ILG is staffed by HR lawyers with specific knowledge of the optometry profession.

Employee members

Advice can be sought from the Optometry Advisor Help Desk or your state office on anything from reviewing a contract to seeking advice on a workplace dispute, finding out your parental leave entitlements, discussing bullying, discrimination, workplace disciplinary meetings, termination and other concerns relating to your workplace.

We can help you understand your workplace rights, and take action. An optometrist advisor can also be your support person at an HR meeting, if required.

Employer members

In partnership with ILG, the Optometry Advisor Help Desk or your state office can help:

  • prepare template employment contracts for optometrists and ancillary staff
  • mediate conflict resolution
  • prepare step-by-step advice regarding a process of recruitment, disciplinary action, termination, redundancy, unfair dismissal and more
  • prepare policy documents tailored to the specific needs of your workplace.

Initial advice from ILG is free for members. If ILG is engaged to provide further service, a quote will be provided at a member-discounted rate.

The Optometry Advisor Help Desk and ILG have stringent internal processes to counter any conflict of interest, which means that if a member employer is seeking advice on an employee and that employee also contacts ILG, each can be supported separately and with complete confidentiality.
