Yes, you’ve read that right – Optometry Australia has launched its Members Book Club

A free-to-join social initiative, with four books selected per year and quarterly virtual catch ups to discuss selected texts, the book club will give Optometry Australia members the opportunity to connect with peers through shared literary interests and an enjoyment of reading.

Members of all ages are encouraged to join, including students and retired members.

Book club meetings will be led by OV/SA Board Director and book fanatic, Laura Carson, with support from Optometry Australia’s communications team and will be conducted virtually, with a Zoom link to be sent to participants prior to the date.

Closed captions will also be enabled for any participants with hearing impairments.

A variety of literature and diverse genres, including fiction, non-fiction and popular literature will be embraced, with at least one indigenous/First Nations author selected over a 12-month period.

You can register to join the OA Members Book Club here.

The inaugural read for the book club is Tom Lake by Anne Patchett, with the first meeting to be scheduled for mid-July.

A private Facebook group has been created as a platform for sharing relevant book content, upcoming virtual meetings and housing member discussion around current reads or books in general.
