Glaucoma Australia is asking optometrists to take part in the World’s BIG Breakfast to Beat Invisible Glaucoma.

National executive officer Geoff Pollard says optometrists can host or attend the World’s BIG Breakfast on 12 March 2014 or at any time during World Glaucoma Week on 9-15 March.

‘You can make a difference to glaucoma detection rates just by holding a discussion over breakfast about the risks of having a relative with glaucoma,’ Mr Pollard said.

‘Hosting or attending the World’s BIG Breakfast can also help to raise much-needed funds for community awareness and Glaucoma Australia’s telephone support line, and to provide glaucoma patient resource materials.’

Mr Pollard says optometrists can invite family, friends and work colleagues to make a donation at their breakfast event, and help people understand the importance of having their optic nerves checked as part of a comprehensive eye test.

‘The breakfast can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. If holding an event at work, your employer might offer to match donations dollar for dollar,’ he said.

Register today to host the World’s BIG Breakfast. Visit www.glaucoma.org.au/BIGbreakfast or phone Glaucoma Australia on 1800 500 880.
