A new website to help people adjust to vision loss has been launched by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.

The website may be the first of its kind in Australia and provides links to vision loss resources and support services.

It contains separate sections for those who are newly diagnosed and for children’s vision loss.

A screen reader allows users who are blind or vision impaired to enlarge and contrast parts of the website so that it is easier to read.

Professor Michael Kalloniatis, director of the Centre for Eye Health in Sydney, said that as an optometrist, it was important for him to advise patients appropriately and this website filled a gap in providing that information.

‘Learning you are losing your vision can have a huge impact on your life, so it’s vital for people in that situation to know that there are services and support to help them maintain or regain quality of life,’ he said.

The website can be accessed at www.visionloss.com.au.
