The centre of Brisbane was awash with green and large screens in the city centre promoted eye health messages as Specsavers Clinical Conference attendees enjoyed drinks and canapés at an evening function at Brisbane Town Hall.
Collaboration between optometrists, ophthalmologists and universities was a central theme at the conference.
Clinical sessions at the Hilton Hotel on the main conference day, 13 September, were attended by 400 Specsavers optometrists, 50 non-Specsavers practitioners and 50 students.
Ophthalmologists delivered all lectures on the Sunday, worth 22 CPD points.
For the first time, clinical education sessions that delivered nine CPD points were run on the previous day and Specsavers plans to continue this format. At these sessions, 300 optometrists listened to representatives of four optometry schools in Australia and New Zealand deliver clinical education sessions on therapeutic topics and clinical skills.
Six sponsors featured in a trade exhibition that also showcased the Oculo platform for uploading optometric and ophthalmological digital images and referring patients.
