Optometry Australia welcomes Dom Willson to our team as a Professional Services Advisor to provide members with quality, one-on-one advice on a range of clinical, ethical and complex issues.

He joins dedicated and experienced optometry advisors Ben Hamlyn, Sophie Koh and Luke Arundel at our Optometry Advisor Help Desk – a service that provides members with independent and unbiased advice in complete confidentiality and without judgement.

With nearly 30 years of experience as an optometrist in Australia, Dom has worked as both an employee and locum for corporate and independent practices in metro locations as well as remote communities in the Northern Territory and rural NSW.

He owned and managed Custom Eyecare, a successful independent optometry practice in NSW, for over 20 years. He also spent a decade working at the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BVHI) in his spare time as a locum optometrist providing care to Aboriginal communities.

Dom’s areas of interest include teaching and supervising optometry students, paediatric optometry, orthokeratology and providing care to rural and remote communities.

When not working, he enjoys helping out at his local surf lifesaving club in Newcastle, spending time with family and playing bass guitar; some may even recognise Dom from his brief cameo in Optometry Australia’s ‘We Are Here’ music video (spot him in the clip here!).
