Optometry Australia members have saved thousands of dollars on international money transfers by using our member benefit service OFX Global Money Transfers.
OFX Account Manager, Alliance and Partnership, Albert Ton said 77 Optometry Australia members had made 1,559 deals using the service since the partnership between OFX and Optometry Australia began in March 2013.
‘Members have transferred nearly $18.4 million from Australia to overseas or vice versa,’ he said. ‘The average deal is $10,897.’
The value add that OFX offers members includes:
- $0 transaction fees on all transfers over $250 (minimum transfer amount is $250)
- 24/7 telephone and online support to book transfers
- Better than bank exchange rates and faster transfers across 55 currencies
- A dedicated account manager
Furthermore, OFX has waived the previous transfer fee making it a more cost-effective service.
Optometry NSW/ACT member Tom Savidis practises as a locum mainly in rural areas along the east coast of NSW and Queensland.
‘I work as a locum because my wife is from overseas and we travel back and forth a lot,’ he said. ‘As we spend time overseas and have some small investments, I need to send money overseas to Greece in Euros (my background) and to Ukraine (my wife’s background.)
‘In the past, I had always transferred money using ANZ and CBA. It was very easy and convenient but the recent Royal Commission into the banks started me thinking that banks may not always have my best interests at heart.’
Tom found out about the OFX service from an Optometry Australia newsletter.
‘Using OFX requires just one extra step online to transfer money overseas but the saving I made over a $AU10,000 transaction was about $250,’ he said. ‘Best of all there are no transaction fees for Optometry Australia members.’
