Supporters of The Cyril Kett Optometry Museum and Archive, housed at the Australian College of Optometry in Carlton, have established a Friends of the Kett Museum group.

One of the Friends founders, Joe Chakman, said the museum has a repository of over 3,000 items of historical importance to optometry in Australia and is growing rapidly.

‘We have just begun construction of a display area that is more conducive to visits from people who have an interest in the history of eye care in Australia.’

‘We have formed a Friends of the Kett Museum group as a means for the museum to communicate with people who have an interest in optometric history, showcase its collection and gain from the knowledge that is in the optometric community about its history,’ Mr Chakman said.

‘You don’t have to be an optometrist to become a member. Membership is free and there are no responsibilities. We will send members a quarterly newsletter and we plan to have social functions occasionally in which we will talk about the museum’s collection and have guided tours. Members of the Friends of the Kett Museum will be welcome any time.  As the group grows we will introduce new programs of interest to members.’

Acknowledgement of Country

In the spirit of reconciliation Optometry Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
