Optometry Australia has updated its clinical practice guide on Paediatric eye health and vision care.

Revisions to the guide include updated visual acuity testing and tips on the use of cycloplegic drops and retinoscopy.

National clinical policy advisor Simon Hanna says the document is a good starting point for optometrists looking for support in this area.

‘The guide is not for everyone because there are some optometrists who are absolute experts in the field. It is designed to encourage more practitioners to get to a baseline and be able to service their community and their patients in a more comprehensive way, rather than feeling they are not up to date,’ Mr Hanna said.

The guide was developed by paediatric optometrists Rod Baker, Liz Jackson, Stephen Leslie, Tim Martin, Marissa Megaloconomos and Christine Nearchou, and released in October 2015. The revised guide was published in August 2016 and will be reviewed regularly to ensure referencing is relevant and current.

The new Glaucoma clinical practice guide can be found on the Optometry Australia website.
