Optometry Australia has launched a new Instagram profile with the aim of establishing a strong national presence focused on building community, promoting Australian optometrists and celebrating the Australian optometry sector as a whole.

National Marketing & Engagement Manager Trinity Scarf said: ‘Through Instagram, we plan to showcase the amazing work of optometrists, elevate the profile of optometry in Australia and build a strong sense of community dedicated to promoting the importance of eye health.

‘As one of the most downloaded apps in the world, and with 2 billion active monthly users, Instagram has long been of interest to us as a channel to promote optometry nationally, but we’ve always known we would need to treat it differently to how we communicate with members via other social or communications channels.

‘We wanted to apply a dedicated strategy that is all about celebrating optometrists and the great work they do. We intend for the content to be of interest to the sector itself as well as the community at large. We’ve now reached a point where we feel we have the right team and the right strategy to do it well.’

Featuring members on Instagram

Trinity says that with Instagram, Optometry Australia aims to profile members and show them in a different light. She adds that it’s easy to get involved and invites all members to participate.

‘We’ve created the platform and committed to the approach, now we need our members around the country to participate and help us promote our wonderful profession to the community.

‘Optometry is a diverse field, and we want to showcase all optometrists in varying stages of their career. This is a great opportunity for our members to share their optometry journey, any rewarding or interesting patient cases they’ve worked on, or even what their hobbies are outside of work.

‘To simplify the process, we’ve created a quick and easy survey form for members to fill in. The form will have simple question prompts; and we request that you answer at least two to three questions.

‘We’ve already had many members fill out the form and participate, and we can’t wait to share their stories with other members and the wider community.’

In addition to this, Trinity notes that the national Instagram page will also serve as a space to share and repost existing content created by members.

‘We know that there are members out there already creating posts and reels on optometry and eye health. Please tag us (@optometryaustralia), we’re more than happy to repost your content!’
