Professor Mark Bullimore has been appointed the executive director of the World Council of Optometry (WCO).

Professor Bullimore will direct the WCO in supporting optometrists worldwide to promote eye care through education, policy development and humanitarian outreach. He will be responsible for membership recruitment and retention, fiscal management, communication and the development, promotion and delivery of services.

The British-trained optometrist is the former editor of Optometry and Vision Science, the journal of the American Academy of Optometry. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston and has lectured to professional groups and taught optometry students in the UK, USA, and Trinidad and Tobago.

He will be based at the WCO offices in St Louis, Missouri.
