Optometry Australia has released a member-only resource that clarifies the differing rebate rules of competing private health insurance funds.

Optometry Australia collaborated with Medibank Private, NIB, BUPA and HCF to prepare the resource.

The resource clarifies four common questions with responses from each different fund.

  • Can a rebate be used as partial payment at time of ordering if the product is paid in full?
  • Can a product be purchased over two years (frames and lenses) to maximise rebate?
  • Can a rebate be provided on only a frame if a patient chooses to get lenses elsewhere?
  • Do plano lenses need to be retained if a patient purchases a complete pair of prescription sunglasses?
